Can’t Keep It To Myself!

It was suppose to be a private Bible study for twenty-five days. My plan was to do an advent study through “A Heart Prepared: Savor the Story of Christmas Advent Legacy Journal”. I have never done anything for Advent. The Holy Spirit compelled me to do something different this year to prepare for Christmas.

Our house is a wreck right now because of some kitchen remodeling. So there are no Christmas decorations. The plan is to be done well before Christmas. But as many reconstruction projects go it takes longer than anticipated which is what is happening now. I recently made a wreath at a craft party but can’t hang. The Spirit of Christmas is not apparent in our home.

I love Christmas for what it represents celebrating the birth of Jesus. What I do not like is the buying of excessive gifts. Time with family over a hot meal is good enough for me. I also do not like to shop. Every year I have to spiritually prepare myself for this time of celebration and not be turned off by the shopping aspect. Thanks to the pandemic last year and this year I was able to shop online and not step into a store. That has been a saving grace for me.

This Bible study to prepare my heart was going to be an extra study while I worked on my Bible Study Fellowship Matthew study. It was supposed to be something for me and the Holy Spirit. However, after completing the first day, the Spirit compelled me to share about it for all twenty-five days. Seriously? That adds something else in my crazy schedule. I stand corrected, the schedule God plotted out for me. Once I remembered that then I submitted and wrote the first one on December 1, 2021. Today is Day 5 and there are five articles so far, twenty to go.

My heart has already softened to what God wants me to learn while I study His word and immerse myself into the birth of Jesus, His parents, and His story. What are we doing to prepare ourselves for celebrating the birth of Jesus? How are we allowing the commercial distractions to take us away from what Christmas means?

The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Luke 2:33-35)
